JAYSS
The story of Jace
Jace began as a short form of Jason, and is also spelled Jase. It was coined in the twentieth century and is now used as a name in its own right. Jason itself comes from Greek, where it was the name of the hero who led the Argonauts in search of the Golden Fleece.
Jace sits with other short, crisp boys’ names such as Jake and Jay, which have been popular with Irish parents in recent decades.
It first reached the Irish list in 2010, with 3 boys. It rose quickly, and 16 boys were named Jace in both 2014 and 2017. It has settled since, with 9 boys in 2025. In Northern Ireland its best year was 2023, when it reached number 200.
