The story of Tadhg
Tadhg comes from the Old Irish name Tadg, traditionally explained as “poet” or “philosopher”. It was common among medieval Irish kings and chieftains. In English it was often swapped for Timothy or written as Thady.
For much of the twentieth century it was rare, but it has come back strongly. It reached number 6 in 2024 and was number 8 in 2025.
