JAKson
The story of Jaxson
Jaxson is a modern respelling of Jackson, an English surname that simply meant “son of Jack”. Jack began as a pet form of John. Swapping the “cks” for an “x” gives the name a shorter, punchier look, and Jaxon and Jaxxon are other versions of the same idea.
Surnames used as first names have been popular for a long time in the United States, and Jaxson took off there before crossing the Atlantic.
In Ireland it first reached three babies a year in 2011. Its best year so far was 2022, when 22 boys were named Jaxson and it reached number 221. Since then it has become less common, with 7 boys in 2025. The CSO counts Jaxson, Jaxon and Jackson separately, so the sound is more popular than any one spelling suggests.
