The story of Kyron
Kyron is a modern name, and none of the sources we checked explain where it comes from. It sounds close to Kieran and Kyran, the English forms of the Irish Ciarán, which means “little dark one”. Some parents may choose it with those names in mind, but that link is not recorded, so its meaning is best left as uncertain.
The name is used mostly in English-speaking countries, and it is carried by a number of sportspeople in Britain, America and Australia.
Kyron first reached the Irish list in 2007. It has grown slowly, and its best year was 2024, when 13 boys were named Kyron, reaching number 293. It had 8 boys in 2025. It is rarer in Northern Ireland, where its best rank was number 315 in 2014. The CSO counts Kyran and Kieran as separate names.
