The story of Jayden
Jayden is a modern name with no old root. It was put together by American parents towards the end of the twentieth century, pairing the letter J with the sound of fashionable names such as Aidan, Braden and Hayden. It also echoes the names Jay and Jade, and in America it has been given to both boys and girls from the start.
In Ireland it is almost entirely a boys’ name. It first reached the CSO list in 2002 and climbed remarkably fast over the next few years. Its best year was 2012, when 197 boys were named Jayden and it reached number 43. Since then it has eased back, to number 111 in 2025.
It took off at about the same time in Northern Ireland, where it reached 32nd in 2011. Other spellings, such as Jaden, are counted separately by the CSO.
