Cayden is a spelling of Caden, a name coined in the English-speaking world rather than handed down. It has no settled meaning. It rose in the early 2000s on the back of names with the same sound, such as Aidan, Braden, Hayden and Jadon, and it comes in many spellings, including Kayden and Kaden.
It is best seen as a modern name chosen for its sound, rather than one with a long history behind it.
Cayden first appears in the CSO records in 2005. It rose quickly and had its best year in 2010, with 29 boys in 2010 and a place at number 201. It has faded since, with six boys in 2025. The CSO counts Cayden, Kayden and Caden as separate names, so the whole sound family is bigger than any one spelling. In Northern Ireland its best rank was number 140 in 2009.
